The Company:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated professional to join one of our clients, a leading educational institution, as the Director of Finance and Business Operations. This senior role is pivotal in driving strategic initiatives, managing resources efficiently, and supporting the mission to maintain educational excellence.


The Opportunity:

The Director of Finance and Business Operations will be responsible for providing financial oversight, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading operational teams. Working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, Trustees, and various stakeholders, you will play a key role in guiding financial strategy and resource management, ensuring sustainable operations, and fostering an environment that supports both staff and students.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial strategy as the Chief Finance Officer, managing budgets, audits, and financial reporting to support effective decision-making. Collaborate closely with the Headteacher and Trustees on risk management, funding, and resource sustainability.
  • Serve as Company Secretary, overseeing data protection, health and safety, and regulatory adherence, including payroll, pensions, and VAT compliance.
  • Oversee support functions, including IT, Estates, and Finance, and manage relationships with external providers to optimise school services and maximise income generation.
  • Direct procurement processes, service contracts, and insurance, ensuring value and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee payroll preparation and assist the HR team with financial administration related to staffing.
  • Identify new revenue streams, oversee lettings, and manage charitable activities to support school initiatives.
  • Provide line management to a diverse team.


Your Skills & Experience:

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA).
  • Significant experience in financial and risk management within an educational or similar context.
  • Proven leadership in managing teams, projects, and resources effectively.
  • Strong IT proficiency, particularly in MS Excel, with the ability to analyse and present financial data.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.


Desired Attributes

  • Experience with Academy financial management, statutory guidance, and income generation.
  • Knowledge of payroll, VAT, and governance regulations within education.
  • A collaborative approach, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for educational excellence.
  • An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Candidates should be prepared for a three-month notice period.
