Description:

We are working on behalf of a friendly, well-established haulage company based on the outskirts of Ipswich who are looking for a detail orientated and experienced Accounts Assistant with freight industry experience to join their finance team!

With over 40 years in the industry, and a passion for ensuring responsibility to the environment, our client is a leading provider in distribution, container transport, hazardous cargo, and flat trailer services.

The ideal candidate will be hardworking, motivated and possess an excellent eye for detail. Full training will be given on their in-house systems and processes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and processing of financial transactions including invoicing, payment processing, and reconciliations.
  • Manage freight-related accounts, ensuring proper recording of income, expenses, and cost of goods sold.
  • Process purchase orders, sales invoices, and supplier payments
  • Monitor and reconcile freight accounts to ensure timely and accurate billing and payments.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures, including the preparation of reports.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports for senior management, including budget forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, transport providers, and suppliers to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Resolve queries related to freight charges, invoices, and payments.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of freight and logistics industry financial practices and regulations.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as an Accounts Assistant, preferably within the freight, logistics, or shipping industry.
  • Strong understanding of freight accounting, billing, and invoicing processes.
  • Proficient in accounting software including Sage 50
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • A proactive approach with the ability to solve problems independently
