Key purpose of role


Driving value creation in the ISTARI portfolio working closely with management teams and the CIO. Support CIO with evaluation, execution and analysis of potential investment opportunities, as well as the monitoring and analysis of ISTARI's portfolio companies' financial performance. Helping drive ISTARI's internal operational improvements.


Key accountabilities


Investment/M&A-related workstreams for ISTARI

  • Evaluate, execute and present potential investment opportunities
  • Independently lead key work-streams in support of investment-related business development and evaluation efforts


Support the CIO in monitoring and enhancing portfolio performance

  • Develop a deep understanding of the financial performance of ISTARI's portfolio companies by owning, maintaining and updating the respective financial models, analysing key drivers of performance, tracking performance vs plan and surfacing key issues to ISTARI management.
  • Support the CIO and key stakeholders of ISTARI / Temasek portfolio companies in identifying and executing both standalone and cross-portfolio performance enhancement initiatives
  • Drive valuation process for portfolio companies, working with the management teams, ISTARI team and Temasek
  • Work closely with other cross-functional teams within ISTARI to help drive internal operational improvements
  • Work with Temasek's portfolio monitoring team to ensure Temasek is updated on ISTARI and ISTARI portfolio company performance

Candidate profile


Ideal candidate background and experience

  • Minimum of five years' work experience
  • Minimum two years' management consulting experience at BCG / McKinsey / Bain or in one of the Big 4
  • Likely to have worked in the private equity practice at these firms, driving value creation
  • MBA from a top school preferred
  • Investment Banking experience preferred

Key skills

  • Strong financial modelling skills, familiarity with financial statement analysis and accounting and finance fundamentals
  • Ability to work independently to analyse, interrogate and manipulate financial forecasts at both the portfolio company and ISTARI level
  • High degree of commercial acumen, able to assess financial information against strategic priorities, operational realities and ISTARI's investment thesis
  • High degree of comfort with building relationships, presenting to and interacting with senior stakeholders across organisations (e.g. ISTARI, ISTARI's main shareholder, portfolio companies, potential investee companies)
  • Able to work cross-culturally in fast-paced, unstructured team environments
